Well, because Freeloader was already taken on Netfirms but I can't trace who reserved it! Wasn't me! The current sub-domain's a play on words and means learn about IT (information technology). And stamps my place in the Internet world. Freeloader (on Hypermart) is D-E-A-D. Long live the Freeloader!
Freeloader (or See Ol' Freeloader to be precise) in a Net persona created in mid-1998 as an escape from boredom. I was then heading a multimedia CD-ROM product development team. Unfortunately for my employers, development wasn't working out too well. We had switched to "get-rich-quick" shareware CD compilations. I had lots of time on my hands and started writing about newly-launched Internet software and services for Cyber India Online.
Things changed by late-1998 and to cut a long story short, I moved on to the holding company's corporate office. But left Christmas Day 1999 to join Bennett Coleman & Company. My brief: develop a IT-channel for their Indiatimes premier portal.
But I'd eaten too many beans. And a few months joined a new dot com. Where I developed the Themanagementor'stechnology channel. This competency building & knowledge enhancement portal was funded by venture capital. And early signs of decay appeared by mid-2001 when salaries became intermittent. By early-2002 they stopped completely and I managed until October 2002 when I had had enough. I'm now with Indax Web Design, a small productive design and development company.
